Francis Xavier: missionary to Japan

A must see for all who are interested in missions in Japan. Biography: Saint Francis Xavier - YouTube

"Speak to them of the great mercy of God…. Sometimes people are helped by your telling of your own lamentable past." Francis Xavier

1 Timothy 1:13-14, "Though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." The Apostle Paul

Documentary on St. Augustine

Here's a very enlightening Documentary on St. Augustine whom both Protestants and Catholics regard highly.

“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.” Augustine of HippoConfessions

John 4:13-14, "Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.'

Luke 10: 41-42, “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Read full passage: Luke 10:38-42

Amy Carmichael: missionary to India and awkward colleague

'Awkward colleague' is what many people might call me. Amy Carmichael was full of faith and foibles. "Do you know someone with a flair for saying the right words and also the wrong ones? You’ve got an Amy Carmichael—she rubbed people the wrong way but also touched souls with her life."

For a short time, she was actually a missionary in Japan, working with the renown Barclay Buxton.

Our Poverty in Prayer

Listen to Dr. Richard_Gaffin_on Our poverty in_prayer, or We don't know what we ought to prayer for. Or here: Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church.

“You and I are free as believers to be ourselves in prayer because we are not ultimately dependent on our own efforts in prayer. Our dependence is elsewhere.”

Romans 8:26, 34 "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words….
Christ Jesus is the one who died--more than that, who was raised-- who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us."

Ed Dobson

"How can we be truly Christian when dealing with social issues? We need to drop the bad language, we need to consider the difference between a person and the choices they make, and we have to extend love without compromising our values." Ed Dobson
"Everywhere I go I bump into someone who has been touched by your (Ed Dobson's) church. I don't know what you're doing in that church, but you're doing something that's impacting and changing people's lives." a leader of Planned Parenthood in Grand Rapids, MI.
"And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, 'Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?' And Jesus answered them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:29-32

Sermon: The New Birth

Listen to this sermon on The New Birth by Timothy Keller

"A common misunderstanding of being "born again" is that it's an experience for broken people, a way for outcasts and moral failures to turn their life around. Yet, when Jesus teaches on being born again,He does so by challenging a man who is the very opposite of the born again stereotype. Nicodemus was an upright moral man and a leader in his society - and yet Jesus said that all of his accomplishments meant nothing unless he was born again."
